Job Description
This position has been created to support Sungrow Renewables’ expansion in Spain. The M&A Associate will be a key member of the Investments & M&A team, playing a hands‑on role in executing buy‑side and sell‑side transactions, originating investment opportunities, and contributing to the company’s strategic growth.
The role focuses on execution – financial modelling, valuation, due diligence coordination, preparation of investment materials, and negotiation support. The M&A Associate will work independently, reporting directly to the M&A Manager, and will not have direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute M&A transactions – Support the full lifecycle of buy‑side and sell‑side processes, from target origination and valuation to due diligence, negotiation, and closing.
- Financial modelling & valuation – Build and review complex financial models (DCF, project finance, merger models, LBO where relevant), including sensitivity analyses, risk assessment, and value creation plans.
- Due diligence & coordination – Coordinate external advisors (legal, financial, technical) and internal teams during NBO, BO, and transaction execution stages.
- Investment materials – Prepare investment memoranda, teasers, management presentations, and approval documents for senior management and investment committees.
- Greenfield & strategic analysis – Assess greenfield development opportunities, identify key risks and value drivers, and support strategic initiatives and partnership discussions.
- Market intelligence – Build industry relationships, track market trends, and originate investment opportunities in the Spanish and European renewable energy markets.
- Support M&A Manager – Assist in portfolio management, business planning, and ad‑hoc strategic projects as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education – MBA or Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field from a recognised university.
- Experience – Top-tier firm (Investment Banking, Management Consulting (MBB), Big4, Private Equity, or similar):At least 2 years in M&A, corporate finance, investment analysis, or corporate strategy;Other companies (corporate M&A, energy developers, etc.) :At least 3–4 years in a similar role
Sector Expertise
- Required: Experience in the Energy or Infrastructure sector , preferably renewables (solar PV, wind, BESS, etc.).
- Required: Proven M&A due diligence experience.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of valuation methodologies (FCFF, FCFE, DCF, multiples, LBO basics).
- Advanced financial modelling skills (ability to build models from scratch and review complex models).
- Solid understanding of accounting, finance, and strategic analysis .
Soft Skills & Mindset
- Handson execution attitude – willing to “roll up your sleeves” and do the work (modelling, presentations, negotiation support).
- Bright, motivated, and curious – able to learn quickly and solve problems independently.
- Strong teamwork – ability to work collaboratively with the Spanish team and Chinese headquarters.
- Excellent time management – capacity to work under minimum supervision, onsite and remotely.
- Strategic vision with high attention to detail – able to see the big picture without missing the numbers.
- Crosscultural communication – comfortable interacting with stakeholders in Europe and China.
Languages
- Fluent in English and Spanish (both business and negotiation level).
- Chinese is a plus but not required.
