Aistech Space

Company Description:

Aistech Space is a dynamic-growing company focused on generating affordable, recurrent, high resolution thermal imagery of the planet to provide a new perspective of Earth’s changing resources. The company is based in Barcelona and aims to revolutionize remote sensing for environmental monitoring and resource management.

What you will do:

Aistech Space is looking for a Satellite Systems Engineer to be part of the Space Infrastructure Team. The ideal candidate will bring systems engineering background and proven hands-on expertise from Phase 0 through Phase E.

This new position offers the opportunity to coordinate the interfacing between our ENABLER payloads with the new satellite platforms, as well as preparing the mission for daily operations in conjunction with the Ground and User infrastructure teams.

In this role, you are expected to deal with the different Aistech departments, suppliers, clients, R&D proposals, bureaucratic paperwork, launch plans and a long list of activities to push the company forward.

The main responsibility for this job position is leading technically a heterogeneous team of engineers/scientists/sw developers to deliver the next ENABLER payloads into orbit and ensure the best geometric and radiometric performance of the ENABLER payloads producing high-quality imaging products.

Key responsibilities:

  • Define mission CONOPS, system architectures, including computing system and subsystem budgets (power, data, link, pointing, etc.).
  • Capture, trace, and flow down mission-level requirements to system and subsystem specifications.
  • Perform system engineering activities across all project phases, from preliminary design through to commissioning and operations.
  • Perform system-level analysis, technical trade-offs (cost, risk, schedule, performance), and manage the mission technical risk matrix.
  • Preparation of project documentation and presentation materials for all phases of the mission.
  • Plan and support Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) activities, including environmental testing, verification, and system validation.
  • Support FMECA activities, and contribute to FDIR strategies.
  • Act as the primary technical interface for external stakeholders, supporting bid/tender activities, technical negotiations, and progress meetings.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain satellite mission models.
  • Research of COTS technologies and solutions from the space industry.
  • Define and maintain the mission technical schedule.
  • Propose new solutions to be applied into the company in order to improve processes and technologies at a business level

Who you are:

Must:

  • BSc/MSc in Aerospace, Telecommunications or relevant degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience in satellite systems engineering.
  • Proven experience in a full cycle of a satellite mission, from design phases until operations.
  • Strong knowledge of satellite subsystems: power, comms, AOCS, propulsion, EO payloads, etc.
  • Experience leading a team technically to deliver a payload into orbit.
  • Experience in systems engineering activities, covering requirements analysis, architecture design, AIT and V&V processes.
  • Experience in environmental testing of space hardware (vibration, acoustic, shock, thermal vacuum, EMC).
  • Knowledge in orbital dynamics, RF analysis, system budgets, and end-to-end satellite and ground operations.
  • Work ethic: Independent, proactive and an active learner.
  • Personality: Team player, extrovert and respectful with your colleagues
  • Fluent in English.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in any related projects with Thermal Payloads (MWIR, LWIR, etc).
  • Experience in STK, GMAT, MATLAB/SIMULINK or similar simulation SW packages.
  • Good knowledge of FMECA and FDIR design
  • Knowledge of thermal design and FEM analysis of a payload or satellite system.
  • Strong knowledge of optical performance budgeting and optical geometric and radiometric calibration on-ground and in-orbit.
  • Strong knowledge developing code in Python.
