Freelance Satellite Systems Architect (Remote / Part-Time)

We are seeking an experienced European-based Freelance Satellite Systems Architect to support ongoing spacecraft and satellite development activities on a flexible, part-time basis.

This role is ideally suited to a senior engineer with broad end-to-end spacecraft experience who can provide high-level technical oversight, systems engineering support, and cross-disciplinary coordination.

Location

• Remote within Europe
• Approximately one on-site visit per month (EU site location to be confirmed)

Commitment

• Approx. 5 hours per week
• Flexible working arrangement

Key Responsibilities

• Support satellite and spacecraft system architecture activities
• Provide systems engineering input across the full satellite lifecycle
• Review subsystem integration, interfaces, and verification activities
• Contribute to technical reviews and engineering decision-making
• Support requirements management, risk assessment, and trade studies
• Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams across payload, avionics, power, thermal, communications, and mechanical systems

Essential Requirements

• Must be based in Europe
• Proven experience within the satellite or space sector
• Demonstrated experience working on complete satellite systems
• Strong systems engineering background across spacecraft development programmes
• Experience supporting integration, verification, and validation activities
• Ability to work independently and provide expert technical guidance remotely
• Excellent communication and documentation skills

Desirable Experience

• LEO, Small satellite / CubeSat programmes
• ECSS standards familiarity
• Experience working with commercial or institutional space programmes
